Purvis Road Natural Areas

This group of natural areas consists of a small Sphagnum-heath peat bog, between Purvis Road and Lake Road, and wetlands and uplands along a stream and old railroad right-of-way, that is now a recreational trail, north of Lake Road.  The forests along the old railroad bed have a history of agriculture or heavy cutting.  The small stream that meanders through here is often plugged up by beavers at various points, creating a diversity of habitats.  Quite a number of people have told us that the the walk along the old railroad is great for birding.
