This preserve can be a bit of a challenge to find. Head out on Rte. 13 south from Ithaca. When the highway divides, bear right to stay on Rte. 13. Go about 1.6 miles and look left to find a clump of four or five large Norway spruces across the road, approximately, from 1338 Elmira Road. Also, you will see Stella’s Barn Restaurant just ahead to your right. Continue about 0.2 mile to Leslo Lane and turn around. Come back and park on the side of the road near the Norway spruces. Follow downhill along the hedgerow past two open fields and through woods. The trail should be apparent. Look for mature forest. There should be a striking difference in tree size and form, and species composition when you enter the old-growth forest. The trail blazed in red makes a large loop that covers most of the preserve.
