Location

From Cornell, go across Ithaca and the Cayuga Inlet to Route 79 west. Take Route 79 to Mecklenburg (about 11 miles). At the intersection with Route 228, turn left (but not a sharp left) and take Route 228 south. In 5.5 miles, turn left on Cayutaville Road. The preserve is 0.7 mile further, near the road's crest on the right side. A narrow road into the property begins near the southeast corner of the field and leads to a peninsula extending into the wetland.

To reach the wetland and inlet portion of the preserve directly, continue along Cayutaville Road to Swamp Road. Turn right and follow Swamp Road to the inlet. Park on the roadside near the inlet. The preserve is on the right (west) side of the road. The swamp surface is firmest along the inlet.

To reach the Cayuta Lake shoreline, after you turn left on Cayutaville Road, turn right in just under 0.2 mile at the road to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation public boat access. The boat access is well-marked and has a parking area.
