Bowers Rhododendron Collection

This garden has 302 accessioned plants, including some zone 6 trees, and 123 different types of rhododendrons—almost all hybrids. These plants are protected by a white pine overstory, and interspersed with other plants suited for shady areas.

Rhododendrons and azaleas are shrubs native to the mountains of North America, Europe, and Asia, especially the Himalayas. This rhododendron collection illustrates the principles of plant exploration, collection, hybridization, and popularization by botanical gardens and nurseries.
