LECTURE: Grow the Good Life

Class of 1945 Lecture
Date:
11/02/2011 - 7:30pm
Location:
Statler Hall Auditorium
Speaker:
Michele Owens, author

In her talk, Owens guides us on a cultural tour of the backyard vegetable garden. She considers why most Americans gave up growing food after World War II, and why, in this economic, political, environmental, and epidemiological moment, it makes infinite sense for us to grow food in the backyard again today.

Michele Owens is a joyful vegetable gardener of two decades and author of Grow the Good Life: Why a Vegetable Garden Will Make You Happy, Healthy, Wealthy and Wise. She is a founding partner of the popular and influential gardening blog Garden Rant, and writes about gardening for publications including O, The Oprah Magazine, Garden Design, and Organic Gardening. She lives with her family in Saratoga Springs and Salem, New York. Read more about her work at www.michele-owens.com.
