Conservation of an Urban Oasis: Managing Species of Greatest Conservation Need in the Albany Pine Bush.

Inland pitch pine-scrub oak barrens are globally rare, fire-dependent habitats that support a wide variety of rare and declining biodiversity. Located in the heart of New York State’s capital region, the 3,100-acre Albany Pine Bush Preserve protects one of the best remaining examples of an inland pitch pine-scrub oak barrens and 45 wildlife Species of Greatest Conservation Need.  This presentation will explore how prescribed fire and other adaptive management strategies are improving ecosystem viability and helping recover endangered species while benefiting some of New York State’s rarest wildlife.
