Background

Melanie is most recently from Toronto, Ontario where, prior to starting Plantations’ MPS program, she worked as the horticulturist for Downsview Park, a new sustainable community and national park development project. She also built and maintained green roofs and urban landscapes around Toronto, worked in a bilingual garden center in Montreal, and helped her family run a lawn-care business. Melanie received a B.A. in English from McGill University in 1997, and is a 2006 graduate of the Niagara Parks Commission School of Horticulture.

She plans to use the MPS program to strengthen her public garden management skills in the areas of education, communication, leadership, finance, and horticulture, and hopes to focus on sustainability and community outreach efforts at urban public gardens.
