Far Above…The Campaign for Cornell

In 2006 Cornell University launched the Far Above capital campaign.The $4 billion goal is the most ambitious fundraising endeavor in the history of Cornell, and one of the largest in all of higher education. Plantations’ goals in the campaign are to endow key professional staff positions and fellowships for graduate students in our unique Public Garden Leadership program, and to increase giving to Plantations’ Annual Fund.

Plantations’ Strategic Envisioning and Campaign Goals

Develop and maintain horticultural collections that emphasize diversity, plant improvement, and site-appropriate design.

Campaign Goals and Naming Opportunities

  • Endow Director of Horticulture position ($1.6 million)
  • Establish named endowments to support development and care of Plantations’ botanical collections ($100,000 or more)

Develop progressive educational programs that raise human knowledge, awareness, and appreciation about the interdependence of plants, humans and the natural world.

Campaign Goals and Naming Opportunities

  • Endow Director of Education position ($1.6 million)
  • Endow Community Outreach Coordinator position ($1 million)
  • Endow Interpretation Coordinator position ($1 million)
  • Endow Graduate Fellowships in Public Garden Leadership Program ($500,000 each)
  • Establish named endowments to support education programs ($100,000 or more)
  • Endow named scholarships to provide partial support for graduate students ($100,000 or more)

Be a regional and national resource for conservation and preservation of natural areas.

Campaign Goals and Naming Opportunities

  • Endow Director of Natural Areas position ($1.6 million)
  • Establish named endowments to support stewardship of Plantations’ natural areas ($100,000 or more)

Provide facilities and infrastructure that create a high-quality, welcoming, and inspiring visitor experience year-round.

Naming Opportunities

  • Pending approval of the university’s Committee on Memorials and Named Gifts, a variety of naming opportunities will be available in Plantations’ new Welcome Center. This environmentally progressive building is slated for construction beginning in summer 2009 and opening in fall 2010. Among the facilities to be named are the entrance lobby, conference room, two terraces, and several seating walls.
